    Preserve XML structure through additions and subtree removals

    Build the tree from ID-linked records, then apply the supported add-leaf and remove-subtree operations. Serialize after every edit while preserving child order; renaming nodes and XML attributes are not part of this exercise.

    • Escape ampersands and angle brackets in text without inventing an attribute model.
