The screen used a merchant-receivables exercise.

1. Aggregate transactions by merchant, card, and payout date.
2. Replace matching merchant receivables with their contract values.

The candidate completed both parts. The interviewer helped with syntax and kept discussing design and optimization while the code was being written.
