SpaceX Software Engineer Full-time Phone Screen and Project Process

The recruiter described a four-stage interview process.

Round 1 — Take-home assessment

• Ten multiple-choice questions
• Mostly focused on identifying bugs and explaining charts

Round 2 — Phone screen

• Ten-minute introduction to a previous project
• Thirty minutes of basic data-structure and C++ language questions
• Twenty minutes for the candidate's questions
• No computer or live coding was required

Round 3 — Six-hour project

The next planned step was a small C++ project with strict language and library limitations. The code would be reviewed live, with follow-up questions and back-and-forth debugging if problems were found.

Round 4 — Onsite

The onsite was planned but had not happened when the experience was reported.

The candidate had completed the first two rounds at the time of the report.
