Scale AI New Grad SWE Nested JSON Phone Screen

After passing the OA, they had a 60-minute phone screen.

The first part used nested JSON data. A helper for converting time values was already provided. The second part asked them to calculate the overlap between time ranges. They described it as a “busy area” problem but couldn’t remember the exact JSON format or one extra output field.

Their tests passed, but there was still a bug in the code. They were rejected after the round.
